About the author
Jutta Vogt, MD
Dr. Vogt is a triple board-certified physician who’s practiced psychiatry for over 25 years. She came to hormones through her patients, many of them women over forty whose depression and exhaustion didn’t lift until their hormones were treated.

“I hope this book saves you some of the time it took me to work this out, and that it helps you have a better conversation with your own doctor.”
About the book
Missed in some women, oversold to others
Every woman’s testosterone declines gradually with age, and that is normal. For most women, treatment mainly helps with low desire, as the guidelines say. Some women are depleted instead, by surgery, illness or medication, and for them restoring testosterone can also bring back energy, strength and a steadier mood.
Medicine tends to miss these women while selling testosterone to many who don’t need it. Only an accurate blood test can tell the two groups apart, and treatment should bring a woman’s level back to that of a healthy young woman and never push it higher.
The ideas it is built on
A woman’s hormone
Testosterone is made by the ovaries and the adrenal glands, and it does its own work in a woman’s body. Natural menopause takes neither source away.
Declined or depleted
A gradual decline with age is normal. Depletion, from surgery, illness or medication, is a medical problem, and it can cost far more than desire.
The right test
Symptoms can’t tell the two apart, and neither can the standard test most labs run. The book explains which test to ask for and what it can and can’t tell you.
Restore, never boost
Treatment aims for the upper quintile of the range for healthy young women, and never past it. Pellets and high doses overshoot.
